One for One

Impact

Since its inception in 2013, the One for One Child Scholarship program has provided scholarships for 25 to 32 students annually. The majority of the students live in a small rural community in western Kenya. A second cohort of One for One students live in a very congested urban industrial area of Nairobi.

Our students have consistently performed well in school. Many are in the top 10th percentile. The scholarships have provided security and hope for the students, and greater financial stability to their families. These factors have had a positive impact on students’ school performance. The scholarships are coupled with capacity development programs that include organic farming, animal husbandry, and small business development .

It is very encouraging to see the the original cohort of primary school students graduate from college and university!

Scholarships give children hope and a future

Making us proud

Mama Rehema, pictured on the right with her daughters, was widowed when her three girls were young. She soon found herself struggling to make ends meet. In 2013, Rehema and Sally, her oldest daughters, obtained scholarships through One for One. They were so grateful. To express their gratitude the girls worked at their studies so they could do well in school.

In December of 2018, Rehema's hard work paid off! She scored in the top 5th percentile in the KCPE national grade 8 exams and was offered a secondary school scholarship through Equity Bank in Kenya.  In 2022, Sally scored even higher in her grade 8 exams and was offered admission into a good national school.

Rehema has focused on her studies and has obtained good grades. In 2022, Rehema completed her grade 12 national exams and obtained a very good mark. In September 2023, Rehema started university in the Bachelor of Science - Animal Science degree program.
